The brief was to have all of the instrumentation from a traditional Argentinian tango, and modern it up with electronic instruments.
One of the most prominent instruments in Latin Classical music is the bandoneon, often mistaken for an accordion. The bandoneon takes centre stage in this track providing the melody and a very rhythmic chordal progression.
The track was meant to stay quite sparse so I couldn’t really go overboard on the modern instrumentation, there’s just the electro drums, some added percussion and the side chained bass.
One of my favourite ‘flavours’ in Tango music is tremolo strings, and in this case I’ve added some tremolo violin and violas, with some extra melodic runs to add some interest to the music.
